With a planned debut for early 2028, the development will be the hospital’s largest campus expansion to date.

Westchester County is a hub for healthcare, with some of the top institutions in the region located right within the confines of the 914. Now, thanks to White Plains Hospital, the county will become even more of a local leader. White Plains Hospital recently unveiled its plans for a cutting-edge expansion plan that will be its largest campus transformation yet.

Following a groundbreaking on May 5, White Plains Hospital will commence work on a multifaceted expansion plan that has a target open date of early 2028. The expansion will be significant in scope with 10 stories and 475,000 square feet to the buildout. As for the layout, the expansion will connect to the existing hospital structure on three floors: the main floor, the emergency department, and the operating room level.

With the expansion, the award-winning White Plains Hospital will be able to reach even more individuals in the community. The new space will include 240 single-bedded inpatient rooms, which will bring the hospital’s total capacity to 436 licensed beds. The rooms will feature a universal design that works for patients of all care levels, with ample space for loved ones as well.

In addition to the increase in beds, the hospital also looks forward to the debut of its expanded emergency department (ED). The new ED will be a big change for the hospital in multiple ways. Not only will it help the hospital to serve more patients, but it will more than double the size of the current space, bringing it to an area that’s larger than that of a football field. The ED will also feature a dedicated driveway for drop-offs and entrances to the facility. Plus, for EMS partners, expanded ambulance bays will ensure that priority care is more accessible than ever.

To oversee the construction and design of the project, White Plains Hospital has tapped the skills of Payette for architecture and Suffolk Construction for the buildout. The multi-year project is anticipated to increase access to medical care in Westchester, generate new jobs, and have a long-term economic impact across the region.
